This new edition provides a guide and reference book on all aspects of eclipses of the Sun. The authors describe eclipses past and present, explaining why they are such a pleasure to watch and giving personal accounts of observers. They describe how humans, over the years, have investigated the Sun by observing it at eclipses. They go on to explain the science of the Sun and how energy travels from its core out though the corona that we see at eclipses and onward to us on Earth. There are also chapters on the eclipses of 2009, 2010, 2012–16, 2017 and coming attractions. Appendices cover total, annular and hybrid eclipses 2008–2060; recent total, annular and hybrid eclipses 1970–2008; the chronology of discoveries about the Sun; and NASA solar eclipse bulletins. |
