There is currently a massive thrust of research and technology leading to new products involving nanoscale materials. Although the evidence for extreme toxicity in currently-produced nanomaterials is lacking, there is concern that new forms of engineered nanoscale materials may be appreciably toxic. This volume gives an overview of the sources, behaviours and risks associated with nanotechnology. The seven chapters cover: Current and future applications of nanotechnology; Nanoparticles in aquatic and terrestrial environments; Nanoparticles in the atmosphere; Occupational exposure to nanoparticles and nanotubes; Toxicological properties of nanoparticles and nanotubes; Human effects of nanoparticle exposure; and nanoparticles safety – a perspective from the United States. |
