This book is for chemists who are amateur gardeners. It describes some aspects of the chemistry and chemical ecology that are found in the garden. The chemistry of the garden begins with the chemistry of the soil. This, and the structure of the soil, determines the availability of nutrients, water and air to the roots. There are chapters on: the biosynthetic relationship of natural products; natural products and plant biochemistry in the garden; garden soils; the colour and scent of garden plants; bioactive compounds from ornamental plants; natural products I the vegetable and fruit garden; and fungal and inset chemistry in the garden. |
