Computing to produce digital art is one of the most expressive aspects of imagery creation and manipulation. This book looks at the transformation of digital photos into fine art and the authors are experts in the field and use Photoshop and painter as working programs. The book is aimed at readers from a variety of backgrounds, some from conventional painting and drawing who want to find out more about digital techniques and others without knowledge of painting but want to know about good composition, colour theory, and digital painting. A grasp of basic digital photography is assumed, and the program versions the authors use in the book are Photoshop CS2 to 4 and Painter 9 to 11. Photoshop is an essential tool for retouching, composition, painting etc, while Painter is the essential tool for painting with its natural brushes and paint effects. Rather than detailed use of the programs the book focuses on concepts and painting styles inspired by the old masters. The book is well illustrated in colour often showing progressive stages in composition. Contents: 1 getting started, 2 painting for non-painters, 3 emphasizing the subject, 4 adding texture to photographs, 5 emulating the look of watercolor, 6 achieving acrylic and oil-painted looks, 7 creating abstract art from photographs, 8 composition and collaging. |
