The author, Helmut van Emden has taught statistics to biologists for many years and has a unique way of teaching based on logic. The first eight chapters of the book develop a train of thought that is essential to analysing biological data. There are chapters on: statistics and notation; summaries of variation; using a calculator to sum squares; the normal distribution; and the t-test. There are also chapters on: the F-test; analysis of variance (ANOVA); experimental designs for analysis of variance; introduction to factorial experiments; 2-factor experiments; factorial experiments with more than two factors; factorial experiments with split plots; the t-test in the analysis of variants; linear regression and correlation; chi-square tests; and non-parametric methods. |
