This is an expansion and revision of the Compendium of Macromolecular Nomenclature (The Purple Book) that was published eight years ago. It covers the terminology used in the many and varied aspects of polymer science. It has two sections: Terminology and Nomenclature. The Terminology includes: stereochemical definitions; classification and definitions of polymerization reactions; and definitions relating to stereochemically asymmetric polymerizations. There are also chapters with definitions of terms relating to: crystalline polymers; low-molar-mass and polymer liquid crystals; non-ultimate mechanical properties of polymers; polymer blends, composites and multiphase polymeric materials; structure and processing of sols, gels, networks and inorganic-organic hybrid materials; reactions of polymers and to functional polymeric materials; and degradation, ageing and related chemical transformations of polymers. The Nomenclature section includes the nomenclature of: regular single-strand organic polymers; regular double-strand organic polymers; irregular single-strand organic polymers; copolymers; and non-linear macromolecules and molecular assemblies. |
