Review: This pocketbook is the latest in OUP’s excellent series that they began in 1995. It begins by pointing out how important memory is, providing anecdotal observations to illustrate this. It then goes on to give a brief history of systematic, scientific investigations into memory, beginning in the late 19th century with Ebbinghaus, through Bartlett (in the 1930s), to controlled, group-based experimental research conducted in the context of recent information-processing models of memory. It concludes by discussing how we currently study memory and gives the principles in good design in contemporary memory research.
