Biomedical engineering involves the application of engineering principles and techniques to enhance medical science in humans and animals. This book presents R&D in biomedical engineering, biomaterials and nanomaterials science and its applications. Emphasis is on the convergence of nanoscale effects, as they relate to the delivery of enhanced biofunctionality. There are chapters on: health hazards of manufactured, natural environmental and other anthropogenic atmospheric nonparticulate materials; Integration of microfabrication and surface functionalisational strategies in cell–surface interactions; Biomimetic/Biological vesicles; Titanium surface promoting osseo-integration; electrospinning micro- and nano-fibres; Bioactive glasses for tissue engineering; Ordered nanoporous silica materials for biomolecular systems; Biomaterials for bone regeneration; Fluoridated hydroxyapatite coating on metal implants; Microbiological aspects of biomedical devices; and Adsorption of proteins and amino acids onto surfaces. |
