This textbook explains the fundamentals of plant anatomy with an emphasis on their applications and relevance in current botanical research. It begins by describing basic plant morphology, looking at the micromorphology of the plants around us and the challenges faced by land plants. The next chapter looks at meristems and meristem growth, describing tissue types in connection with the organs in which they occur. Xylem and phloem are dealt with in a separate chapter. This is followed by chapters on roots, stems, and leaves. The last chapters describe adaptive features, the economic aspects of applied plant anatomy, and practical microtechniques. The CD-ROM has high-quality photos and SEM images. It also contains exercises for students. |
