Review: This book is the result of a workshop held in Italy in 2006. Homeland Security (HS) is the application of a set of suitable measures and technologies to protect citizens and public property from hostile attack by, for example, chemical or biological agents and information viruses. This book deals with data acquisition – using a ‘sensor’ – how it can be pre-processed using secure and safe procedures and the design, modelling and simulation of complex HS systems. There are chapters on: Embedded wireless networks; Visual detection and classification of humans, their pose, and their motion; Cyber Security basic defences and attack trends; Mining databases and data streams; Private information retrieval – single database techniques and applications; Tapping vehicle sensors for homeland security; Modelling and analysis of wireless network systems, and Large system modelling and simulation.
