Review: This book brings together the main strands of our existing knowledge of weather and climate in mountains. It begins by discussing the basic controls of the climatic and meteorological phenomena in mountains, such as geographical controls (latitude, altitude, topography and continentality), circulation systems and the climatic conditions of mountains. It goes on to give case studies of mountain climatology and meteorology in selected areas from New Guinea to the Yukon. The chapter on mountain bioclimatology looks at human bioclimatology, weather hazards and air pollution, and the final chapter gives evidence for, and the significance of, changes in mountain climates.
