Review: In this book the authors register their unease with the definiteness that is often attached by cosmologists to their interpretations, when they are based on speculation rather than facts. They show that throughout the history of man’s attempts to understand the Universe, views that were once held with a great deal of firmness have been subsequently proved wrong. The book reviews past and present ideas on the origin and structure of the Universe. The current theoretical structure of the Big Bang theory rests on extrapolations, so the authors have put forward their own ideas, which departs considerably from this theory.
