Review: The authors state they have designed the book for students and teachers who want to have an impact beyond the classroom. The emphasis is learning by doing. An important element is the exercises which span a wide conservation area including genetic analysis, population biology, ecosystem management, public policy process. The book is aimed is late undergraduates, recent graduates and perhaps professionals. There is an instructor manual for the exercises, obtainable from the authors by email. Conservation biology and wildlife management are seen as complementary but having different objectives. Conservation biology views all diversity as important and having inherent value. Wildlife management has a primary objective of providing recreational resource for people. This includes sustained yields of harvested species including birds and mammals. There is an accompanying website with data sets and other material for the exercises.
