Review: This book provides practical, manageable actions for women to help them in their careers and acquire leadership positions. The book is not only written for women but also for those with a responsibility for human resources in their organization. The style of writing is straightforward, easy to absorb, with sometimes bulleted points for action. However the book is more than an instructional manual in that it describes clearly the issues faced by organizational workers, both men and women, in particular the work-life balance, equal opportunities and fair evaluation. For instance, the authors discuss gender schemas which are implicit views held by all of us that affect our expectations of men and women, their work and their performance as professionals (not be confused with discrimination which is a decision about a person unrelated to their performance or behaviour). The book describes how to deal with such issues and many others such as credibility and clarity in one’s work. The book is also structured for particular career stages with chapters listed for students, career women, faculty members, deans-heads-chairs, and managers.
