Review: This book highlights a massive scale of habitat loss and fragmentation, overexploitation of species and environmental degradation. This is particularly true of the tropics where there are the largest areas of pristine habitat, and the greatest species diversity and richest centres of endemism. In order for action to be taken it is necessary to document the current state of biodiversity and this book is the first of its kind to focus exclusively on conservation in the tropics. The book covers the topic in ten chapters and also provides a short biography of some of the world’s most eminent conservation scientists within each chapter. Although the book does not extend into social and political issues, it will also be of interest to natural resource managers, politicians and policy makers, in addition to biologists.
