The 39 chapters in this book, by US authors, detail emergency sedation and analgesia, emphasising the treatment of the emergency department patient. The book is divided into five sections: an overview and the principles in emergency analgesia; analgesia for the emergency patient; procedural sedation for the emergency patient; the topical, local, and regional anaesthesia approach to the emergency patient; and special considerations for emergency procedural sedation and analgesia. Each chapter follows a similar logical plan, for example: Scope of the problem – Clinical assessment – Pain considerations – Pain management – Follow up/Consultation considerations – Summary – Bibliography. |
