The focus of this textbook is planning in the UK within regions – on what has been called regional/local planning; intra-regional planning; regional strategic planning; and regional spatial planning. It is divided into four parts. The first gives an introduction to the purpose and nature of regional planning. In Part 2 there is a brief overview of the wide theoretical field of regional planning, including theories on the process of regional planning and theories that seek to explain the substantive nature and dynamics of regions. The bulk of the text deals with the new English regional planning system and the evolving systems in Scotland, Wales and Ireland. And the last part puts the UK systems in a European context. |
