Antibiotics are becoming increasingly ineffective in the fight against bacteria. A new approach is needed. Between 1920 and 1940 bacteriophages, viruses that attack bacteria without harming people, were thought to be the solution. But, with the discovery of penicillin, they were pushed aside, and are currently only used in the Former Soviet Union. This is the updated English translation of Thomas Häusler’s book in which he charts the use and research into phages to overcome diseases and looks at the hopes that they offer. |
