This book explains how to make devices with computational power (microcontroller powered devices, email programs, network databases etc.) talk to each other. You’ll need a basic knowledge of electronics and programming microcontrollers, some familiarity with the internet, and access to both. Each chapter gives explanations of the concepts that underlie networked objects, accompanied by ‘recipes’ to illustrate each set of concepts, introducing new ideas and giving instructions on how to build a working project based on those ideas. Some of the projects include: making your pet’s bed send you email; making a game controller that communicates over a network; using ZigBee, Bluetooth, infrared and radio to transmit data wirelessly; use the open-source environments, Arduino/Wiring, Processing and PHP; and writing programs to send data based on physical activity in your home, office or garden. |
