Many engineering and scientific problems in design, control and parameter estimations can be formulated as optimization problems that are governed by partial differential equations (PDEs). The challenge is to use methods that run quickly enough for decision-making at relevant scales; adjust to the requirements and properties of the process; and scale to large problem sizes. This volume addresses these issues for real-time optimization of systems governed by PDEs. The 15 chapters are divided into four parts: (I) Concepts and properties of real-time online strategies; (II) Fast PDE-constrained optimization solvers; (III) Reduced-order modelling within the context of design and control; and (IV) Applications for real-time decision making. |
