Engineers no longer hold the leadership positions that they held up to the end of the 19th century. This is because, according to Professor Galloway, the engineering education system has failed to keep up with the demands of the marketplace. Universities need to work with industry and professional engineering organisations to prepare engineers better for the future. Engineers need to broaden their skill base if they are to become leaders in businesses and public policy. This book gives an understanding of the challenges that a 21st century engineer may be facing, of how the engineering profession must raise its public standing and increase the public’s confidence in engineers, and what additional skills one may need to be a successful engineer in the 21st century. |
