Hurricane Katrina was the costliest and deadliest weather-related disaster in the USA’s recorded history. This is the report of the assessment made by CORPI (The Coastal, Oceans, Ports and Rivers Institute) of ASCE. The report assesses the geographical impact on the area and identifies lessons that could be learned from Hurricane Katrina – for the protection of natural coastal barriers, in the re-establishment of coastal barriers that have been lost, and in the design of coastal infrastructure that will withstand the force of such storms. The report was made by three teams, covering: the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the Alabama–Mississippi Gulf Coast and the Louisiana River and Coastal Ports. |
