Review: The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) began as a class project at UC Berkeley. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages. The program can be downloaded from http://www. gimp.org. The Artist’s Guide to GIMP Effects shows you how to use the features of the program. The book is divided into six chapters. Each chapter covers a different area of graphic design: fundamental techniques, photography, Web design, advertising, typography, and user interface design. Each chapter has several sections, each of which is a tutorial. these tutorials contain a summary of the particular project being discussed and explains how the technique is applicable to the real world.
