There are many approaches to training, coaching and educating people to improve their personalities in general and their emotional intelligence (EI) in particular. Here the editors have selected what they consider to be the four best in the area of EI. The four interventions are set up so that readers can appreciate them on their own terms without evaluation. In the first, the authors provide a detailed description of a school-based EI intervention, providing exercises and worksheets for students and teachers. The second is a broader programme for developing personal and interpersonal skills in professionals, managers and leaders. The third describes ten ways of improving EI skills in the workplace. Finally, a mindfulness-based approach to EI training is used. This involves teaching people to experience their emotions, fully and without defence, and still do the things that they value most. The last sections of the book seek to provide a unified framework for understanding the wide variety of interventions and looks at their key ingredients. |
