Review: Extreme domain specificity argues that people are effective thinkers only in contexts that they have directly experienced, or in which evolution has equipped them with effective solutions. The role of general cognitive abilities is ignored, or completely denied. This book looks at the evidence and arguments that support specific brain cognition, at the expense of domain generality. The contributors to this book suggest that domain specific processes are essential, and that domain specific functions cannot function without them. The book is divided into three parts: Extreme domain specificity and higher cognition; Extreme domain specificity and cognitive development; and Extreme domain specificity versus domain general intelligence.
