The wise use of the Earth’s biosphere and the successful opening up of space may appear to have completely different agenda. But here Charles Cockell suggests ways that we can solve environmental problems, as well as settling space. He begins by examining some of the scientific and technological links between understanding and caring for the Earth and settling space. He looks at ‘green’ ways of living and how space settlers and those who live sustainably on Earth share common goals. This leads to a discussion on the ethical links that bind space settlement and the Earth’s environment. Lastly, the author sees how the links between space settlers and environmentalists could be increased. |
