In the UK, since 1983 there has been a steady stream of prescription-only drugs that have been reclassified as over-the-counter drugs and some 60 additional medicines are now available over the counter. This book is to aid nurses, doctors and pharmacists to give patients well-informed recommendations of non-prescription medicines. The book reviews medicines that are currently available over-the-counter in the UK, listing them according to the condition that they are licensed to treat. Detailed information such as compounds or constituents, mode of action, indications, dosage, etc. is given for each drug and evidence of the efficacy of each drug is cited (where it exists). This new edition includes new products and discontinued products have been deleted. There are new chapters on fungal nail infection, migraine and cardiovascular medicines for primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular conditions. |
