Infectious diseases cause over 15 million deaths a year. HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria alone kill 6 million people a year. This book is an expansion of a special edition of the journal Bioethics that was devoted to ethical issues in infectious diseases and contains both new and classic papers on the subject. It provides a picture of ethical issues currently arising in the context of infectious diseases. The volume is divided into six topics: the relationship between bioethics and infectious diseases; ethical issues associated with infectious disease control; dilemmas in treatment; vaccination policy; the health care situation in developing countries; and security and bioterrorism. |
