This book focuses on the policy-making process in the NHS and the accompanying political debates of the last 60 years – it is a history of the politics of the NHS. It looks at the ideology and the role of interest groups in shaping policy within the context of the NHS’s changing environment. This new edition takes the story up to 2000 as in the previous edition, but two new chapters have been added describing events since then. This was a period of unprecedented activity and policy drama as Tony Blair struck out on a new way and, in effect, resurrected Thatcherite policy of an internal market. |
