George Porter (1920–2002), the well-known British scientist was made director of the Royal Institution in 1966. In 1967 he shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry with his two colleagues for their work on techniques for observing and studying extremely fast chemical reactions during combustion, explosion, and chain reactions. He was President of the Royal Society from 1988 to 1990. This book gives a biography of his life and published articles; as well as personal recollections on the man and his work from his peers and friends, including Mary Archer, Graham Fleming, Anthony Harriman’ Edward Land and Martyn Poliakoff. |
