This, the latest volume in the ULLA series of textbooks for postgraduate students in pharmaceutical science, covers the basics of drug safety sciences. The focus is on medicinal drugs and includes the most important safety issues of drugs, including registration requirements of new drugs and pharmacovigilence. The book begins with a general introduction to basic toxicology principles and goes on to examine the organ toxicity of drugs (in the liver, kidneys, respiratory system and immune system). The issues for safety/efficacy assessment of new drugs or drug indicators, teratology and genotoxicity/carcinogenicity, are discussed. The mechanistic aspects, the methodology of safety assessment, and pharmacovigilence are all covered. |
