Review: According to WHO estimates, counterfeit medicines account for about 6 per cent of the world market, even more in some areas. The problem goes beyond the context of health and economics and has important social implications. This report is based on a survey of the member countries on the legislative and administrative procedures applicable to counterfeit medicines. Its aim is to study current practice, identify gaps in the procedures, propose models of co-operation to help remedy the situation, and propose procedures for concerned authorities and stakeholders to prevent and deal with medicine counterfeiting.
