Review: The COE aims to provide greater unity between its 46 member states by promoting common action in the field of health. One of its remits is to regularly update the Technical Appendix to Recommendation R (95) 15 (which is the ‘gold standard’ guide for blood transfusion services). This guide provides such an update. It contains the measures needed to be taken to ensure the safety, efficacy and quality of blood components and is particularly intended for those who work in the blood transfusion services.
