This book describes the drug jars from the 1600s and 1700s in the collection of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. The core of the collection is that of Geoffrey Howard, consisting of 65 jars – these were acquired in 1957 and since then the collection has been expanded to 172 jars and six pill tiles. Briony Hudson and Bill Jackson here describe the origins of the collection, the manufacture and design of drug jars in general, and present a catalogue of the jars (simple name, description, inscription, date, condition, comment and photo). |
