Here David Mindell postulates that the fact of evolution (descent with modification of all life forms) has many applications that are thoroughly integrated into our everyday lives and our societies, often without us realising it. He outlines some of the applications of evolutionary biology that affect agriculture, medicine, public health, environmental health, natural resource management, human understanding, and even the pursuit of justice within the legal system. There are chapters on evolution in: domestication of animals; public health and medicine; conservation; and small-scale variation and change in cultures. Finally, the role of evolution in US Courts and in the classroom is also discussed. |
