In 1986, in the Dnieper River basin, a densely-populated area in the middle of Eastern Europe, an accident happened at the nuclear power plant in Chernobyl. This book provides an assessment of the radioactive contamination of the area and recommendations for action plans. It is looks at the current and future exposures resulting from the contamination of the Dnieper River basin with radionuclides. Recommendations are given to the governments of Belarus, the Russian federation and Ukraine for strategic and national action plans. These consider the Chernobyl-affected areas, nuclear power plants, and uranium mining and processing. |
