Review: The concentration of trace elements in living tissues varies between 0.01 and 100 mg/kg. The 71 trace elements can logically be categorised into those that are essential and those that we do not know whether they are essential or not. The book starts by giving a short description of statistical analysis of data, and goes on to look at trace analysis in general, with its essentials and terminology. There are also chapters on: sampling and sample pre-treatment; spectrochemistry for trace analysis; atomic absorption spectrometry; atomic emission and mass spectrometry using plasma techniques; atomic fluorescence spectrometry; nuclear activation analysis; X-ray methods; speciation analysis; comparison of analytical techniques; and the essentiality and toxicity of some trace elements and their determination.
