To be diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder a person must show: a pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation for the rights of others occurring since the age of 15 years as indicated by three or more of a list of seven given criteria. This book provides an overview of where the field of psychopathy stands, and the direction in which it seems to be headed. It highlights key conceptual and practical issues in the field and provides a good coverage of published work that is relevant to these issues. It also discusses new research methods and theoretical perspectives that hold promise for advancing understanding in this area. Chapters are organized into five broad themes: Basic terms and influential theories; Conceptualization and assessment, highlighting recent facets of the psychopathy construct; Etiology: Special populations; and Clinical and applied issues, including psychopathy in distinct clinical samples. |
