These are the proceedings of a conference held in Stockholm in October 2003. It was the latest in a series of conferences that aim to promote information exchange on R&D in the area of protection of the environment from the effects of ionizing radiation. The sessions were divide into: Background session (giving the background to the current discussion on environmental issues and reviewing ongoing work); Stakeholder views and stakeholder involvement in environmental protection (where representatives of regulators and the nuclear industry gave their views); Case studies (three studies from France, the USA and Australia); Approaches for non-radioactive pollutants – searching for coherence and consistency; Building on current knowledge; and the Implications of the International Commission on Radiation Protection (ICRP) proposals for international safety standards. |
