Review: Over the last few decades, extensive work has been carried out on using radiation technology for environmental remediation. In pilot plants, in the USA, Germany, Japan and Poland, the advantages of radiation technology over conventional technologies has been clearly demonstrated from the technical and economic point of view, according to the book. Application areas are in flue gas treatment (Sox and NOx removal), wastewater purification and sewage sludge sterilization. It is the intention that the experience gained at these facilities can be shared and future strategies defined so that the process can be used on a larger scale. It is intended that the material in this report can be used for the preparation of guidelines and feasibility studies for the future. These are the proceedings of a technical meeting held in Sofia, Bulgaria in September 04.
