This report, prepared by a series of International Atomic Energy Agency consultants meetings, is intended to assist member states in their decommissioning programmes of nuclear facilities. The book covers radioactive and non-radioactive constituents that can have an effect on humans and the environment. In particular it covers toxicity and hazardous aspects of waste and material in regards to their origin and characteristics, typical hazards, recovery and reuse, and predisposal and management options. A particular observation of the report is the necessity to take more account of dismantling and waste during the early design process of a facility. |
