Review: This is a highly illustrated book of a class of diesel-hydraulic railway engines called the Hymeks which were brought in during the 1960s in the UK to replace steam locomotives. The book is large format, slightly shorter than A4 and contains many excellent black and white photos from the author’s own collection, supplemented by other photographers. The move to diesel-electric meant that these diesel-hydraulic engines were gradually phased out in the 1970s. It is an attractive book for railway enthusiasts with many detailed comments about the photos in the captions.
