Review: This book aims to explain and popularize the behavioral approach to mathematical modeling, where models are viewed as a set of possible outcomes. The sections cover static and dynamic, and linear and nonlinear problems enabling the reader to choose the most suitable representation for their purpose. The static chapters cover the total least square method, bilinear errors-in-variables model and ellipsoid fitting. The dynamic chapters cover errors-in-variables smoothing, balanced model identification and approximate system identification. This will be of use to both theoreticians and practitioners such as electrical, mechanical, and chemical engineers. The authors assume an undergraduate knowledge of linear algebra and systems theory knowledge.
