The term ‘biodiversity’ was coined in the 1980s. This textbook is unique in combining a variety of interdisciplinary themes in its study of biodiversity: biological sciences; the social and political context; the threats to and opportunity for survival of natural systems. This new edition reflects the advances that have demonstrated the importance of living systems as drivers of environmental services vital to human health and security. The processes driving the creation and distribution of biodiversity have been updated to reflect new research. |
