This new edition of the undergraduate textbook gives up-to-date coverage of the effects of biological–physical interactions in the oceans, from the microscopic to the global scale. The influence of physical forces acting on biological processes in a wide range of marine habitats is examined. These habitats include: coastal estuaries, shelf-break fronts, major ocean gyres, coastal upswelling areas, and the equatorial upswelling system. The processes are examined according to scale: a scale of less than 1 kilometre, 1–1000 kilometres, and thousands of kilometres. |
