Surgeon, Scientist, Soldier is an account of the life of the early twentieth-century surgeon Henry Wade and has been written to mark the 50th anniversary of his death. Wade was a distinguished Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and in addition to his surgical skills was dedicated to science, also showing devotion and humility in the care of his patients. The biographer portrays the very different aspects of Wade's life: as scientist and pathologist in the field of cancer, as urological surgeon and military surgeon, and as museum conservator and antiquarian. Each chapter includes a helpful summary of topics covered and the book is generously illustrated, including some full-colour plates. |
