Review: This book describes a whole reservoir study from data analysis to flow simulation. Chapters introduce concepts relating to geostatics, flow, upscaling and history-making. These tools are combined to create an appropriate workflow for reservoir characterization to build a reservoir model that is consistent with all the collected data and reliable enough to predict and improve future production. The book begins with an introduction to estimation and simulation techniques. This is followed by a chapter on the basics of fluid flow simulation and, in particular, on the flow of a single phase in a heterogeneous porous medium under steady state conditions. The next chapter deals with the upscaling issue. Finally, Chapter 5 develops history-matching workflows to render reservoir models consistent not only with static data, but also with dynamic data. The CD contains the GO (Geostatics and Optimization) software: Golinux and Gowindows. This provides tools to answer the illustrative exercises proposed and to help the reader to develop intuitive understanding.
