This book is based on a symposium held at the Architectural Association in London in November 2003. It looks at all aspects of the work of Alison and Peter Smithson from the points of view of the twelve contributors. Arguably, their finest work was the Economist Building Plaza (1959–64), and this is described in detail in the first chapter. Other chapters take different perspectives: working with the Smithsons; a client’s perspective; a historical perspective; and the work as the precedent. |
