Review: Gavin Powell’s last book, Oracle High Performance Tuning for 9i and 10g concentrated on tuning OLTP databases. This book focuses on the tuning of Oracle warehouse databases, expanding on the previous book and including areas specific only to data warehouse tuning. The book is in three parts. The first, Data Warehouse Data Modeling, looks at tuning data warehouse from the perspective of data modeling. The second part is on specialized data warehouse SQL codes, and the third part deals with Advanced Topics, such as parallel processing, data loading, and data warehouse architecture. Appendices give sample databases and general versions of schema and the scripts to create them.
