This book, in the Ethical Eye series, looks at the issues of drug addiction and the use of elicit drugs, now important public policy issues for Europe. The contributors look at a wide range of issues and the approaches in a number of European countries, as well as the Russian Federation. They look at questions such as: Can a drug addict be forced to seek treatment? Should preventative screening be made systematic, particularly in the workplace? Do some information and education policies have the effect of legitimising, or even trivialising drug use? Is the monetary cost of treatment justified in light of societies other needs? Appendices give useful Web sites, Resolutions of the COE concerning drug use, and the Pompidou Group (the COE cooperation forum on drug-related issues) publications. |
